MIT's various departments offer a broad range of majors. Most departments are numbered numerically and all subjects offered by a department are in the form of X.Y, where X is the department number or symbol. Departments are also known as Courses (capitalized), as are the degree programs offered by them.

MIT Departments and Majors

The following is a comprehensive list of MIT's departments and the undergraduate degree programs (majors) they offer. Some departments do not offer undergraduate degree programs while others offer more than one, particularly those that focus on two or more main areas of study. Majors that have names listed next to them lead to a Bachelor of Science in name of major while those without names are degree programs leading to a generic Bachelor of Science degree which typically allow more flexibility in course choices and a broader educational focus than the department offering the major.
