Pizza Feed

The Pizza Feed is a tradition from "Back In Somebody Else's Day," in which slugs gather and dump their choice of toppings on crusts for general make-your-own-pizza happiness, often accompanied by a movie.

Fall '05

The Fall '05 Pizza Feed was Saturday, September 24th; we watched Stand and Deliver, which met with widely varying degrees of enthusiasm. A few notes on the amounts/ingredients/buying stuff involved in the Pizza Feed (that probably won't interest anyone but me):

  • Crust
    • Super-secret fantastic recipe courtesy of Gina's Mom
    • Ingredients (for ~40 people): just over 10lbs flour, ~1/4 gallon olive oil, 1 jar yeast, H20.
    • Prepare and stack on layers of tin foil (greased with olive oil); be prepared for stacks to tip and the top few layers to rise if left for very long
  • Toppings
    • Things that are good to get from Haymarket: mushrooms (1/2 lb), pineapple (1), peppers (red & green, 2 or 3 each), tomatoes (2lbs), garlic (not much), broccoli (1 or 2 heads)
    • Things that are good to get from Star: mozzarella cheese (4 bags will cover it), tomato sauce (5 cans), olives (1 can), pepperoni (2 or 3 packages), ham (1 package), chicken (if not yet over budget & if you have the time to pre-cook it)
  • Miscellaneous
    • Soda (five two liters, best obtained from Star, along with plastic cups; Slugs seem to be most fond of Cherry Coke but variety's always good.)
    • Aluminum foil (also best obtained from Star).

Pizza Feeds Lost with the Ages

They happened, but their marks have disappeared from historical records.

Spring '09

The pizza feed in the Spring of 2009 occurred on May 3, 2009.

  • Pizza Crust
    • Gina's mother's super-secret recipe was once again used (16x the original recipe).
    • Be prepared to use over 10 lbs of flour, a good amount of olive oil, 1 jar of functioning yeast, and warm water.
    • We let the dough rise for more than the suggested 10 minutes (the dough became gigantor). It wasn't a problem.
    • Rolled-out dough was placed on sheets of aluminum foil.
      • Aluminum foil was sprayed with cooking spray and sprinkled with corn meal to prevent sticking. More corn meal was sprinkled on top of rolled door for additional non-sticking.
      • Dough could then be stacked.
    • ~43 crusts were made.
  • Toppings
    • 16 lbs tomato sauce -- TOO MUCH. About 9 lbs were actually used.
    • 6 lbs cheese (4 lbs mozzarella, 2 lbs cheddar) -- perfect amount this time.
    • 3 green peppers
    • a 2 lb bag of onions -- too much
    • 2 cans of corn
    • 1 can of olives (if whole, slice them for the feed)
    • 20 oz frozen chopped broccoli
    • 10 oz frozen chopped spinach
    • 10 oz mushrooms
    • 3.31 lbs sweet Italian sausage -- this is a good amount of sausage!
    • 2 packs of sliced pepperoni
    • 1 pineapple
    • sliced tomatoes magically appeared

Hall Rush (Annual)

For the Hall Rush pizza feed, we used about double these amounts (although with much more soda) and came out pretty accurately with what we needed.
