Introduction

We are currently investigating the effects of Tang citrus beverage mix on traditional dietary items. Previous research into Tang pie, done by Miz Suzi et al., leaves much to be desired. Our work is the first effort to systematically investigate this phenomenon. This ground breaking research will hopefully lead to cutting edge innovations in the culinary arts and sciences.

Tang Ice Cream

An easy and delicious ice cream

Ingredients

  • Liquid nitrogen
  • Light cream
  • Tang
  • Mandrin orange slices

Instructions
Mix ingredients in a large bowl.

Tang Carbonated Ice Cream

An easy and delicious ice cream

Ingredients

  • Dry ice
  • Light cream
  • Tang
  • Mandrin orange slices

Instructions
Mix ingredients in a large bowl.

Tang Cake

A chocolate cake with approximately half of the sugar replaced with Tang.


Ingredients

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. Tang
  • 1-3/4 c. gold medal all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 c. hershey's cocoa
  • 1-1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1-1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • dark chocolate frosting

Instructions
Cook like a normal cake at 350F, until done. Let cool and then frost.


White Tang Cake

A cake with half of the sugar replaced with Tang.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 3/4 cup Tang powder
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions
Cook like a normal cake at 350F, until done. Let cool and frost. Cream cheese frosting recommended.


Tang Rice

A savory dish that tasts much like sweet and sour rice, and has also been mistaken for orange chicken. Tang rice is prepared by steaming white rice in a mixture of Tang beverage.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 c. water with Tang added to taste
  • 2/3 c. white rice

Instructions
Microwave: In a covered container for 30 minutes on the microwave's highest setting. Use these instructions at your own risk, as the only microwave available for this experiment was abnormally weak.
Stovetop: Mix ingredients in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil and simmer covered on low heat until soft.


Tang Creamsicle Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup orange-flavored drink mix (e.g. Tang)
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups white chocolate chips
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

2. Mix dry ingredients (Tang, sugar, flour, baking soda, baking powder.) Add butter, egg, vanilla. Mix thoroughly.

3. Bake for 10 minutes.


Chocolate Tang Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup Tang
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1+ cups milk chocolate chips

Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.

2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar and Tang. (The Tang-less recipe suggests doing this till "light and fluffy". I found that that didn't happen so much with Tang instead of sugar, so use your best judgement.) Add the eggs one at a time, beating well with each addition, then stir in the vanilla. Melt 1 cup chocolate chips (add a little water if necessary) and mix in.. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; gradually stir into the creamed mixture. Fold in any more chocolate chips as you feel necessary. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheets.

3. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Or don't, if you're panickedly preparing for a FAC.

Tang Muffins

Delectable muffins with Tang and Mandarin orange slices.'

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 3/8 cup white sugar
  • 1/8 cup Tang mix
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg

Instructions
Preheat oven to 400F. Fill muffin cups 2/3 full. Bake 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.


Tang Pie

This delectable citrus treat tastes somewhat like orange ice cream pie when fully chilled.

Pie Crust

The less ambitious may choose to use a ready-made or graham cracker crust, but for those desiring to truly master the art of Tang:

  • 1/4 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder


1. Put shortening in a mixing bowl, pour boiling water over, and stir until smooth.

2. Mix flour, salt, and baking powder in a separate bowl.

3. Add to the shortening and water mixture, mixing only until blended.

4. Chill before using.

5. Bake at 350 degrees until golden brown.

6. Let cool before adding filling.

(Makes 2 crusts)

Tang Filling

  • 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 8 oz Cool Whip
  • 1/2 cup Tang breakfast drink, use more if desired


1. In a large bowl, combine the milk, sour cream and cream cheese.

2. Stir in the Tang.

3. Fold in the Cool Whip.

4. Pour into cooled pie crust and chill completely before serving.

Makes 2 pies

Attempted,though yet to be perfected.


Conclusions

Is it possible to justify the great pains of our research? Exactly so. Preliminary tests indicate that Tang citrus beverage mix is a viable, tasty, economical, and fun alternative to conventional sweetners. Our research has shed light on many of its properties; however, further study will undoubtedly reveal new phenomena of culinary and scientific interest.
