Quantum Field Theory I

  • 8.321- Absolutely necessary to have background in quantum mechanics before attempting QFT. 8.05 will work slightly worse than 8.321, but still doable.
  • Not a class prereq, but familiarity with lagrangian/hamiltonian mechanics is pretty important.

Peskin&Schroeder- Good book. 8.323 mostly only uses chapters: 2-5. Some PSET problems come from it. Lots of typos though, watch out.

The theoretical material is pretty straight forward (some of us, however, found the material somewhat less than straight-forward). However, applying it to problems is very arduous. Need to be very confident with evaluating integrals. Expect PSETs later in the semester to take at least ~15 hours.
