Quantum Field Theory I
Prereqs
- 8.321- Absolutely necessary to have background in quantum mechanics before attempting QFT. 8.05 will work slightly worse than 8.321, but still doable.
Not a class prereq, but familiarity with lagrangian/hamiltonian mechanics is pretty important.
Textbook
Peskin&Schroeder- Good book. 8.323 mostly only uses chapters: 2-5. Some PSET problems come from it. Lots of typos though, watch out.
Comments
The theoretical material is pretty straight forward. However, applying it to problems is very arduous. Need to be very confident with evaluating integrals. Expect PSETs later in the semester to take at least ~15 hours.
