Slugfest is a co-ed undergraduate living group on the fourth floor of the east parallel of East Campus, Building 64. Currently home to 42 students and 1 GRT, the floor is famous for exuberant nightly cocoa calls and its residents' technical expertise, especially in Course 6. The floor has so many computers that its internal temperature is typically several degrees warmer than that of other neighboring halls. Slugfest residents have a history of working on numerous projects involving computers, electronics, cruft, and music.

According to Slug lore, "Slugfest" refers to back in the day when residents tended to take five years to graduate or hung around MIT for a few extra years to get their masters or a PhD.

Slugs

See the list of Slug wiki pages and the complete list.

For a (skewed) representation of what typical Sluggy utterances are, see our quote page.

Additionally, we'd love to know what our alumni are up to! We'd also love to hear Slug lore from "Back In The Day."

Slugfest Culture

Just as the MIT macrocommunity is made up of several smaller microcommunities, each microcommunity is made up of several nanocommunities, one of which is Slugfest. Slugs tend to favor cooking, hall feeds, watching movies on our projectors, and punting over the stresses that most students of the Institvte feel. In addition, Slugs can often be found walking on spools, working on projects, compiling new recipes into the Tang Cookbook, making the omega muffin, junting, and enjoying pass/no record. For exercise, slugs can often be found engaged in a game of Awesomeball, but more often play plain old Frisbee.

Projects

Projects are really the lifeblood of Slugfest. "Back in the Day" it is rumored that people used calculators and finger scanners to open their doors. The biggest current project is the Bemix music system, letting slugs make playlists from their room and then play it in their bathroom of choice. Everything is powered by Slugnet.

Hall Feeds

Slugs love food and to celebrate this love, every term they have about 6 hall feeds. Hall feeds are hall sponsored activities where a few slugs make food for the rest of the hall and everyone is happy. Check out past hall feeds and keep up to date with what hall feeds are coming up!

Slugfest Places

Fourth East is divided into three sections: Walcott, Bemis, and Goodale. Each section of the hall has its own character.

The hall has two lounges: the Cocoa Lounge and the Goodale Lounge. The Cocoa Lounge is home to the Walcott Museum of the Arts on Fourth East.

MIT Culture

They say MIT is like drinking from a fire hose, but there is so much more. Check out why we love (and sometimes hate) MIT. Fellow Beavers, share your own experiences with MIT Culture.

MIT Places

Check out some of the cool places around MIT. Great for incoming prefrosh, other visitors, or MIT students who just want to know their way around a little better.

Slugfest Government

The hall is typically governed by three hall chairs that are elected each spring at the scheduled hall budget meeting. Responsibilities of the chairs include attending bi-weekly East Campus meetings, mediating conflicts, holding office hours, and generally being easy-going and active hallmates. Some have been known to bake cookies sporadically, and this practice continues to be highly encouraged.

Slugfest also has a GRT or Graduate Resident Tutor--a grad student whose given a wad of cash each semester to act like he's still a freshman. Our current GRT is Aaron Bader.

In 2002, the residents of Slugfest ratified a new hall constitution which is still in effect today.
